Large-Volume Parenteral Solutions

MEETING DIFFERING CLINICAL REQUIREMENTS

Patients will have differing fluid and electrolyte needs based on their clinical history, their current condition and medications, and the results of clinical monitoring and laboratory tests.Baxter offers a wide range of large volume parenteral solutions.

Balanced/buffered solutions that have an electrolyte composition close to that of plasma are associated with fewer complications and lower mortality than solutions with higher sodium and chloride levels and may result in considerable savings for hospitals and pharmacies.2,3

Hypotonic buffered solutions containing glucose may help optimise maintenance therapy.4

Unbalanced solutions are appropriate for patients with specific requirements.5

OPTIMISING FLUID MANAGEMENT WITH THE EQUILIBRIA PROGRAM

Since one in five patients may suffer complications or morbidity due to inappropriate fluid administration, it is critical that fluids are managed judiciously, according to individual patient needs.1 Baxter developed the Equilibria Fluid Optimisation Program to support clinicians in making the right fluid choices and institutionalising sound fluid management practices.
